Yet again we have a news article that flies in the face of everything we have been told for years. The June 7, 2005 article on www.medpagetoday.com tells us that the more milk children drink, the heavier they are. The significance of this, of course, lasts well into adulthood because fat cells, once created, are difficult to get rid of. This means that fat kids become fat adults. The study even showed that the children who drank 1% and skimmed milk gained more weight than the children who drank whole milk. Someone owes Dr. Atkins an apology!
Recently, calcium has been touted as an aid to weight loss but the real key is where that calcium comes from. No nutrient can help any body function if it is in a form that the body can’t process. They say, “You are what you eat” but the truth is that “You are what you assimilate!” Dairy is just not that dense a calcium source in the first place and unless you are a baby cow, it is not the right form of calcium for you. Of 37 studies on calcium and bone health, 27 showed no boost in calcium levels from drinking milk and another 9 showed results so small as to be insignificant.
Where should you get your calcium? The medical community is being trained to tell you to get it from other food sources like broccoli, kale or turnip greens. What they don’t tell you is how much you would have to eat to get your optimum daily amount. In this day and age where the major nutrients are missing from the soil it is hard to tell how much calcium is actually contained in even ‘calcium rich’ foods. Of course, organic is always going to be the better choice. Don’t skimp on your health! You are worth it.
They also say to get it from fortified orange juice and instant (fortified) oats. These foods are not naturally high in calcium and notice that they don’t tell you where this calcium in the fortification comes from!
Let’s face it. Bone health is important throughout your entire life, not just when you are a child. Start using the form of calcium that is the most readily assimilated by the body, Coral Calcium. Certain types of coral have been used for years in performing surgical bone grafts because there is virtually no fear of rejection, a common complication in any transplant situation. The structure of the coral is so similar to our natural bones that assimilation is certain.
As for getting it into your kids, Coral Calcium has virtually no taste and does not change the flavor or texture of food so it is easy to mix into anything you serve your child. Nut butter, tuna salad, vegetables, cereals, virtually any food you can think of can be fortified with this calcium powder and no one even has to know! Adults can use this powder in the same way and you know how much you are getting by reading the label. (The broccoli in our grocery store does not have this information label, does yours?)
Something that we don’t often think about is the fact that pH balance is critical to absorption. If your body is too acidic, it will use the calcium to buffer the acids to protect vital organs like the heart, lungs, liver etc and there will not be enough left to build and rebuild your bones. So make sure you get your pH into the proper range. Liquid Chlorophyll or Chlorophyll capsules, Super Algae, Kelp, etc are all ways to help get your body into that proper pH range.
Calcium is one the most important minerals for the body and one the most abundant minerals on the earth. It should be easier to get the amount we need daily so start using Coral Calcium today!
