According to a recent study that tracked 2,400 girls for 10 years, the girls who ate breakfast in the morning were slimmer than those who skipped their morning meal.

That is not only true for girls, but for everyone. Let’s think about the word “breakfast”. It means “break the fast”. From the time of your last meal or snack before bed till you have the first meal of the new day, you are “fasting”. That could be anywhere from an 8 to 18 hours of fasting and not providing nutrients to your body.

For example, if you eat just before falling asleep and you get your 8 hours, that is an 8 hour fast. This is ideal for your digestive organs to get a break and let some of the other organs get some attention and a chance to rebuild. But if your last meal ends at 6PM and you do not eat again until 12noon the next day, your system has been without nutrition for 18 hours. That is far too long.

Also, think about this. In this last scenario, you would have to squeeze your 3 meals into the 6 hours between noon and 6PM. That puts an undue strain on your digestive system. A short fast can be beneficial but after a few hours, muscles start to break down. Either make time for breakfast or make time for the gym! Even then, you will have to replenish the missing nutrients sometime.

Since foods in the Standard American Diet are so low in nutrients anyway, no one can really afford to skip a meal. We have to learn to eat smarter, not less.

Bad eating strategies not only affect your weight but also your mood and energy levels. Even your ability to heal and fend off diseases. It is so hard to get just the amount of fiber we need daily for good health even if we eat 3 good meals daily.

Here are some morning starters for those of you who just can’t face a meal before noon! Take your fiber supplement. Nature’s Three contains apple pectin, oat fiber and psyllium. Sounds like a bowl of cereal! Add some protein by taking a few capsules of Super Algae. The Mayan culture had no other protein source except for algae. There is no better time to take your Thai-Go that first thing in the morning. It relieves the oxidative stress from organ cleansing all night! Or choose a meal replacement drink of Nutri-Burn that includes weight stabilizing ingredients as well as the energizing nutrients to see you through until lunchtime. What a tasty, chocolaty way to start the day! (It also comes in vanilla flavor.)

Sure, you should eat better foods, but high quality supplements can really fill in the gaps. And remember the old adage, “Eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a farmer and dinner like a pauper and you will enjoy good health.”
